Lyrics of two songs cited in the appeal to Sen. Evans

1. "Spustila se gusta magla" ("A thick fog descended")

Serbo-Croatian lyrics at http://www.crolinks.com/cromusic/s/spustila.htm

English translation:

A thick fog descended on Zagreb [from which the Ustashe eliminated virtually all 'foreign elements - J.I.],
but that was not a thick fog on Zagreb
it was the brave army of the Poglavnik [i.e., of  Croatian Ustasha Fuehrer Ante Pavelic - J.I.].

The Poglavnik gathers the army all under one [command]
and takes it into bloody battle at the Drina River

The Poglavnik gave them a name - brave Ustashe
that is the army that defends our homes

A thick fog descended over Kupres [in the Ustasha-created region of Herzeg-Bosna, where Ustasha forces carried out huge massacres of Serbs - J.I.]
but that was not a thick fog over Kupres

The leader was knite Boban [declared a "Croatian knite" by Pavelic; a commander of the Croatian Ustasha SS Black Legion, which slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Serbs. - J.I.], a devoted Ustasha
Under a mosque shouts Boban, brave Ustasha

Poglavnik named them the Black Legion
That is a brave army - the Black Legion.

2. Song of unknown title - sung at Thompson concert in Sydney, Australia, New Year's Eve, Dec. 2007

Serbo-Croatian, as heard, followed by English translation, indented:

Odakle si? Iz koje fronte stizes?
Hej ratnice upornog koraka
Odavno se ovde boj ne bije.
Zasto kao duh ovuda lutas?

Where are you from? From which front [line] are you coming from?
Hey, you warrior with persistent step
For a long time a battle has not been waged here
Why are you wondering here - like a ghost?
Ja sam dusa hrvatskih ratnika
domovinu trazim i stijeg
sto se iz nje vije
i mojom je krvlju ona natopljena
a dusa nema mira - trazi je
I am a soul of Croatian warriors
I look for my Home-land and a flag
that is fluttering above her
[the one land] which is soaked with my blood
[my] soul has no rest - it is searching for her.
